ALZHEIMER

Alzheimer is a decline in intellectual functions which affects the brain resulting in Mild cognitive dysfunction and memory loss. Symptoms in this disease is gradually increasing . Alzheimer is a common age factor neurodegenerative disease, and symptoms increases gradually every year. Alzheimer typically begins after age 60. In most cases the cause of Alzheimer acquired either as a sporadic primary neurodegenerative disease or as a result of another disorder such as stroke, other factors are also responsible for it like family history, diabetes mellitus, smoking, obesity, blood pressure and a history of significant head injury and hearing loss.

In Alzheimer plaques having beta amyloid peptide, and neurofibrillary tangles occures in whole neocortex.

PREVENTIVE CARE

Do regular physical and mental activity , seems to be protective and delay the symptoms of this disease. Evidences suggests the physical activity may have beneficial effects.

Social engagement and education may also be protective for this disease.

Vitamin B12 and vitamin D and TSH(Thyroid stimulating hormone) should be adequate level in the body.

Cholinesterase inhibitors are primary therapy for this disease.

SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are safe and well effective in cognitively impaired patients.
