HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE (HYPERTENSION) is a term applied to the 95% of hypertensive patients having elevated blood pressure due to complex interactions between multiple genetic and environmental factors. Blood pressure is the measurement of the force of blood inside our arteries on each heart beat. Our blood pressure does not stay the same at all times ,it changes according to our daily chores like when we exercise or go for morning walks our B.P. rises and when we are at rest its level goes down.

The relationship of exercise to hypertension is variable . Aerobic exercise lowers blood pressure in previously sedentary individuals, but increasingly strenuous exercise in already active subjects has less effect.

It also depends upon :-

  • AGE
  • MEDICATIONS(Non Steroidal anti-inflammatory drug etc.)
  • CHANGES IN POSITION

It is measured with a SPHYGMOMANOMETER.

High Blood Pressure (HYPERTENSION) is also called the silent killer which usually has no symptoms but can damage our internal organs.

Factors affecting blood pressure

  • OBESITY
  • SLEEP APNEA
  • EXCESSIVE USAGE OF ALCOHOL
  • SMOKING
  • INCREASED SALT INTAKE
  • POLYCYTHEMIA
  • NON STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUG (NSAID) THERAPY
  • LOW INTAKE OF POTASSIUM

LIFESTYLE CHANGES

  • We have to eat healthy diets like fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Eat unsaturated fat diets.
  • Cut your salt intake.
  • Avoid caffeine intake.
  • Do yoga on daily basis.
