ENDOMETRIOSIS

ENDOMETRIOSIS is a abnormal growth of Endometrium outside of the uterus,and in the parts of a pelvis and ovaries by which chronic pain and infertility occurs.

Mostly Retrograde Menstruation is a main cause of Endometriosis.

Prevalence of Endometriosis is greater in Infertile women than normal women.

There is a high chance of coronary heart disease in Endometriosis affecting women.

CLINICAL STUDY

Dysmenorrhea, Pelvic pain, Dyspareunia are the main manifestations.

Most of the women remain Asymptomatic and normal Pelvic examination in Endometriosis.

Pelvic examination of some women shows tender Nodules in culde-sac and uterine retroversion with decreased mobility.

Endometriosis is differ from PID (PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE) ,Uterine myomas.

Transvaginal Ultrasonograpghy is used to detect the Endometriosis of rectum and rectovaginal septum.

TREATMENT

Many medical treatment using a variety of hormonal therapies is effective in manaement of pain associated with endometriosis.

Most of the following treatments are given to inhibit ovulation over 5-9 months for lowering hormonal level.

  • Progestins, like oral norethindrone acetate have been given for endometriosis pain.
  • Low dose oral contraceptive can be used.
  • Intrauterine progestin like levonorgestrel is useful in endometriosis pelvic pain.
  • GnRH agonists are mostly recommended and it is also very effective in decreasing pain. GnRH agonists suppresses the ovulation.Side effects of GnRH agonists is bone deminerlization.
  • Aromatase inhibitor like anastrozole and letrozole are shown a positive results in premenopausal women.
  • Surgical treatment are also helpful in increasing fertility and decreasing pain.

IN ENDOMETRIOSIS YOU SHOULD AVOID RED MEAT AND HIGH FAT DAIRY PRODUCTS FOR REDUCING THE EXPOSURE TO ESTROGENIC PESTICIDES AND PRESERVATIVES.

EAT FIBEROUS AND B COMPLEX RICH VEGETABLES AND OMEGA FATTY ACID RICH DIETS.

DRINK 6-8 GLASS WATER DAILY.

AVOID ALCOHOL,CAFFEINNE AND REFINED SUGAR.
